Pakistan Independence day and our youth
Pakistan was created after sacrifices that cannot even be imagined by people these days. Trains filled with dead bodies of hundreds of Muslims killed by Hindus and Sikhs in India came to this side of the border. Even the thought of these sacrifices brings me goose bumps. People who made it alive to Pakistan not only lost their money, but their families, friends and loved ones, and all their belongings, in a hope to be able to achieve a land that they can finally call their own. A place where they can live in peace, practice their religion as they want to and have the liberty to live the way they want to and be independent. Pakistan came into being on 14th of August, 1947 and today it turned 74 years old. Pakistan has true blessings from ALLAH as it was created in HIS name.
We, as children, use to celebrate the Independence Day like anything. We would wear green clothes, decorate our homes with small flags of Pakistan and sing patriotic songs all day long. Today, seeing my own daughters, aged 4 and 7 years old, doing the same brought back profound memories. And I began to think is this the only way we should celebrate this great day that marks sacrifices of thousands of people. The idea that started in Iqbal’s mind, turned into the Pakistan movement and by so much hard work, effort, love and detriment brought us this great country Pakistan. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammed Ali Jinnah worked too hard to make this dream come true and now I think what are we doing with the gift he gave us made from his and many other’s flesh and blood and sacrifices. The country where not only Muslims but everyone else to was free to live.
“You are free; you are free to go to your temples. You are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion, caste or creed — that has nothing to do with the business of the state.” ― Muhammad Ali Jinnah
Aren’t we suppose to put more effort in making ourselves and our surrounding righteous? Is it too much to ask? If only we, and by we I mean all of us, could only make ourselves better human beings, wouldn’t this piece of land become a paradise to live in. All the bloodshed, theft and all kinds of wrong doings that are going on around us, we must contribute to end this and make Pakistan the best nation on Earth.
First of all we must make sure that we, as individuals leave the path of dishonesty and falsehood. Instead of pointing fingers on others, we must ensure that we make small changes in us and our surroundings. We must teach our children that independence does only mean living in an independent place, but also teaching our minds to be free. However freedom does not also mean that one starts mutiny. Pakistan is the best thing that ever happened to us and we must never forget that and always be thankful for what Allah has given us. We must ensure that we contribute in the development of the country and its hailers, even if it is just a small deed, only then we will begin to be thankful. Only words won’t be enough now and we need to put in practical efforts as well.
Long live Pakistan,
Pakistan Zindabad!
