Punjab to Replace Teachers During Matric and Inter Exams with Tehsildars and Patwaris

In the Rawalpindi division, Punjab has assigned Tehsildars, Naib Tahsildars, Gurudwaras, and Patwaris the responsibility of overseeing the yearly exams for Intermediate, FA, and FSC.

These officials will be supervising the annual examinations for the first time in the province’s history. Exam centres in the Rawalpindi division will be supervised by Tehsildars, Patwaris, Gurudwaras, and Naib Tehsildars from the four districts, according to the details.

The decision was made in order to protect the impartiality and integrity of the examination procedure, especially by taking strong action against illicit enterprises like the booty mafia.
The Punjab government, citing cases in which dishonest persons have taken advantage of the current system, has voiced worries regarding the reliance on instructors for examination obligations. As a result, the government has authorised funding for authorities to manage testing facilities.

Teachers’ organisations have objected to the plan to designate distinct examination centres under the direct supervision of assistant commissioners for Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, Gurudwaras, and Patwaris within their respective jurisdictions.

Concerns over the decision have been expressed by the Educators Association, Punjab Teachers Union, and Punjab SES Teachers Association.

Leaders such as Muhammad Shafiq Bhalwalia, Akhian Gul, and Basharat Iqbal Raja have called for an expeditious reversal of the decision to include Patwaris in testing facilities. They contend that this kind of meddling has the ability to sabotage the examination process and damage its legitimacy.
