Governor Punjab Is Requested by Chairman HEC to Put an End to Acting VCs Abusing Power
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has responded to grievances expressed by acting vice-chancellors of several Punjabi universities regarding purported abuses of power.
Many complaints have been filed alleging that these interim vice presidents have overreached themselves, abused their authority, and made judgements that fall outside of their assigned responsibilities.
Through a formal letter, the HEC responded to these complaints by outlining its position to the Governor of Punjab.
The HEC emphasises the necessity of stringent measures and pushes for limiting the power of active venture capitalists, especially when it comes to important policy decisions and financial matters.
HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed stated, “Acting VCs’ attempts to change decisions that regular VCs have already approved will not be approved.” Moreover, Dr. Ahmed emphasised the unstable state of affairs made worse by the lack of permanent vice-chancellors in 28 Punjabi universities. He bemoaned how these vacancies undermine the fundamentals of sound governance and the general standard of instruction in these establishments.
Dr. Ahmed disclosed that “more than half of Punjab’s universities are operating without permanent vice-chancellors,” highlighting the seriousness of the situation. He called for the quick appointment of regular vice-chancellors in Punjab’s institutions to fill this leadership deficit, since this is essential to reestablishing efficient governance and maintaining academic standards.
