Therapy Works Rehab Center

Therapy Works Rehab Center

Here is another amazing discovery in the field of psychology; Therapy Works. It is a counseling and psychotherapy center affiliated with the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) in the United Kingdom. Therapy Works is also a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

It operates in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.

We as a nation shy away when it comes to talking about our feelings, emotional issues, and mental health problems. At a personal level, I have come across people who say, “why should I go to a psychiatrist, I am not mad!”
A friend who is a psychologist responded to this,
“When you have flu, cold and/or fever, you go to a doctor for help. Similarly, when your mental health is suffering, you must seek an expert. It is an illness that is on the rise in our country and around the globe. I have patients as young as 3-year-old!”

“Therapy Works” estimates about 15 million Pakistanis suffer from mental illness in some capacity.

The organization was established in 2007 in order to provide quality education, sensitive and creative individuals equipped with diagnostic and therapeutic tools to serve people with mental and emotional illnesses.

The Sad Reality

“180 million people are currently provided health cover by less than 500 psychiatrists primarily confined to 5 major cities only. Counseling and therapy within these approaches is limited to pharmacology (medical model) and CBT practice, both are underpaid and overworked.”
The remaining population also suffers from some kind of stress i.e. unemployment, terrorism, anger, frustration, and fear.

Therapy Works is ready for the Challenge!

Hence “Therapy Works” is trying to fill this gap by training individuals and bringing tools and skills of international level to major cities in Pakistan. Self-awareness is the most crucial element that “Therapy Works” provides to both its clients and students.

Tahir Zahoor Ahmed, Chief Psychotherapist, is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy – UK. He is a practicing psychotherapist/Head Tutor in Psychotherapy of UK based and accredited counseling training (CPCAB-UK).

He believes emotional healing is more important than medicines in dealing with patients suffering from mental illnesses such as addiction. Through the charity-based Therapy Works Foundation, Mr.Tahir provides support to poor masses, women and silent sufferers in society.
His students are being trained to become “great empathetic listeners through deep commitment towards their patients.”

The staff is well-qualified and well-experienced. Most have diverse expertise as they have worked in many countries. I have visited the place and it is a great initiate! The building is at a convenient location i.e. F-6 and is running in full swing!
