Punjab Is Setting Up Two More Transgender Schools
The Punjab government has made the decision to build two more transgender-focused schools in Lahore, adding to the one that is currently located in front of Barkat Market.
The locations of these new educational facilities will be at Raiwind and Wagah. Details state that the School Education Department (SED) will give transgender kids attending all three schools free books, stationery, and uniforms.
In addition, each student will receive a scholarship of Rs. 10,000, provided they maintain an 80% attendance rate. Of this amount, Rs. 5,000 will be used for books and stationery and Rs. 5,000 for travel expenses.
Similar schools were previously established to provide transgender people with educational opportunities in many locations, including Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had earlier this year announced plans to build educational facilities for children with special needs in at least one government school every district, as well as transgender schools at the division level.
It is important to note that transgender schools exist in nine of Punjab’s eleven divisions, according to a decision made by the former Usman Buzdar administration.
