Teachers at Peshawar’s Engineering University Threaten to Protest Over Delayed Salary

The delayed salaries of university staff have caused significant anxiety, according to the Engineering University Teachers Association (EUTA), Peshawar. On January 1, 2025, the association discussed the protracted issue and encouraged the administration to take immediate action in an emergency meeting presided over by the EUTA President.

The university administration has disclosed that, despite provincial authorities’ approval of the release of money for universities, the allocation has not yet been disbursed, as per the notice published by EUTA.

The university’s ability to pay salaries is further strained by the fact that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) funds for December 2024 have not been received.

Employee salaries are a fundamental entitlement and ought to be paid on time, according to EUTA. The association referred to the administration’s inability to anticipate and address the problem as a lack of proactive management.

By January 3, 2025, the association has ordered that salaries be made available. EUTA warned that if it doesn’t, it will be forced to start a protest.
