Private Schools Must Set Up Buses for Half of Their Students
Leading private schools in the city have been directed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Secretary of the District Registering Authority/District Education Authority (DEA) Lahore to provide transportation for fifty percent of their pupils by October 1, 2024. Under current regulations, schools who disregard these guidelines will be subject to severe consequences.
The implementation of a Lahore High Court judgement regulating the supply of transport for 50% of pupils attending private schools was reviewed at a meeting of the District Registering Authority Lahore on September 11.
It was underlined in letters to principals and school owners that the orders of the Lahore High Court need to be strictly adhered to. Buses must be rented or organised by schools in order to accommodate at least half of their student body. Parents must be given access to bus route plans by schools, and all vehicles must be kept in good working order, have current fitness certificates, and go through the required inspections before every trip—including checks on the fuel, tyre pressure, and brakes.
Drivers must give the school their CNIC, contact information, and addresses in addition to having current licenses and being in good physical and medical health. It is strictly forbidden to overload a vehicle, and there cannot be more students inside than can fit in its seats. Students must be accompanied by a teacher or an Aya to oversee the driver and guarantee safe driving, with drivers always conforming to speed regulations.
Furthermore, the submission of an assurance verifying the bus arrangement will be a requirement for a school to be registered or to have their registration extended. By October 1, 2024, these orders must be fully executed.
District Registering Authorities and/or District Education Authorities in other districts of Punjab, according to sources in the Punjab School Education Department, will issue such directions to private schools in their respective areas to guarantee compliance with the Lahore High Court judgement.
