Visit of a Five-Member Delegation from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad to Washington State University
A five-member delegation from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, visited Washington State University with the aim of strengthening relations between the two institutions. During the visit, it was agreed that the wheat varieties introduced by Washington State University would be commercialized at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad.
The delegation from the Agricultural University included Chairman, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Professor Dr. Azeem Iqbal Khan; Director of Planning and Development, Irfan Abbas; Associate Professor of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Dr. Rizwana Maqbool; Research Officer Dr. Ahmed Waqas; and Arif Rahman, Chief of the Food and Agriculture Section, Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives.
In the concluding meeting with officials from Washington State University’s International Office, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Professor Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, expressed gratitude online to Paul Whitney, Vice President of International Programs, and Dr. Asif J. Chaudhry, former U.S. Ambassador / Senior Advisor to the Provost and Executive Vice President of Washington State University, for the invitation to visit. He stated that this visit would further strengthen cooperation between the two universities, enhancing development in various fields by fostering stronger relationships. He proposed the need to commercialize the wheat varieties introduced by Washington State University at the Agricultural University.
Professor Paul Whitney assured full cooperation in commercializing WSU wheat varieties and collaborating in other fields, including animal sciences, arts, and humanities. Dr. Asif J. Chaudhry praised the committed efforts of the university. Dr. Kulwinder Gill from Washington State University endorsed Vice-Chancellor Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan’s proposal to commercialize the new wheat varieties introduced by WSU. The delegation visited greenhouses, fast breeding facilities, farms cooperative, storage facilities, wheat and chickpea trials, a live demonstration of combine harvester, the Research and Technology Park, canola farm machinery, laboratories, and other fields.
