UHS Modifies Admission Requirements for a Range of Degree Programmes

The recommendation of the MPhil/PhD committee to update the requirements for admission eligibility for MPhil and Master’s degree programmes has been approved by the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) of the University of Health Sciences (UHS).

Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, vice chancellor of UHS, presided over the 202nd ASRB meeting, which took place on Thursday.

The previous 50% score on the University’s Postgraduate Entrance Test was replaced with a minimum score of 75% in order for students to be considered for admission.

The board has also removed the prerequisite of having at least two years of relevant experience in order to be admitted. Applications for UHS’s MPhil and Master’s degree programmes are now open to recent graduates.

In addition, the board authorised examination panels and 45 student thesis reports for the theses submitted by Dr. Huma Saeed Khan (Ph.D. in Physiology), Madiha Shakoor, Shumaila Habib, Osheen Sajjad, Sana Iqbal, and Madiha Shakoor (all Ph.D. holders in Human Genetics & Molecular Biology).

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday by Pink Ribbon Pakistan and the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) to engage in breast cancer awareness initiatives.

The CEO of Pink Ribbon Pakistan, Umar Aftab, PHEC Chairperson Dr. Shahid Munir, and delegates from six Punjabi women’s universities signed the Memorandum of Understanding at Arfa Karim Tower.

The event sought to address women’s lack of knowledge about breast cancer, which frequently leads to delayed diagnosis.

According to Dr Munir, PHEC and Pink Ribbon Pakistan will work together to raise awareness of breast cancer in Punjab’s women’s universities. Dr. Munir was praised by Mr. Aftab for PHEC’s assistance.

Registrar Dr. Fatima Mazhar of Women Sadiq University, Bahawalpur; Vice Chancellors Dr. Shagufta Naz of Lahore College for Women University; Dr. Faleeha Zahra Kazmi of Home Economics University; Dr. Anila Kamal of Rawalpindi Women University; and Dr. Zareen Fatima Rizvi of Government College Women University Sialkot were among the participants.

The Memorandum of Understanding states that academic research, case studies, research initiatives, and hospital business modelling will be used by women’s universities to assist Pink Ribbon. There will be workshops and seminars to highlight significant features of breast cancer. Universities will extend invitations to staff, students, and former students to participate in fund-raising efforts for the awareness campaign.
