UHS Notifies Students in Medicine and Dentistry of Their Migration

Applications from enrolled students at medical and dental institutes are now being accepted for migration, according to the University of Health Sciences (UHS) in Punjab.

From April 8 to May 31, interested students can apply online through the UHS site. Applications for admission to medical and dental schools in the public and private sectors will be handled separately through the portal.

Migration is only permitted for MBBS students in their third, fourth, and final years, if they have completed their respective professional university examinations in the second, third, and fourth years.

In a similar vein, BDS students who pass their first, second, or third professional BDS exam are eligible to transfer in their third and final year.

A representative for UHS stated that there are now 443 open seats in 34 private sector colleges and 123 open seats in 15 government medical and dentistry schools. In particular, twelve government medical colleges have thirty-three open MBBS seats, and three government dental colleges have ninety open BDS seats.

Conversely, 26 private medical colleges have 179 open MBBS seats, while 14 private dental colleges have 264 open BDS seats. The previous academic year’s student detentions and failures are the reason for the vacancies in different classes.

The Punjab Government Migration Policy 2023 would be followed throughout the migration procedure at government medical and dentistry institutes.

Together with the Secretary of Specialised Healthcare, all Vice-Chancellors, and Principals of Government Medical and Dental Colleges, a central committee chaired by the Chief Secretary of Punjab will supervise migration matters at government colleges.

On June 14, a preliminary list of applicants who qualify to transfer into government colleges will be released. In government colleges, migration merit is determined by using the same cumulative scores that the applicant had upon admission.

The UHS Migration Regulations 2024 will be followed when moving to private colleges. Merit for transfer to private colleges will be based on a combination of professional exam scores and the total percentage of marks at the time of admission. On June 25, the preliminary list of immigrants enrolled at private colleges will be made public.

Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, vice chancellor of UHS, emphasised that admissions and migration will both be determined solely by merit.
