Pakistan will host the vice chancellors’ meeting for the Muslim world.

Next month, the Muslim World’s Vice Chancellors’ Forum will be held in Islamabad, Pakistan. Somali authorities were formally invited to the ceremony on Monday by Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

In an effort to promote cooperation in higher education throughout the Islamic world, the event, which is set for February 4–7, will bring together more than 150 vice-chancellors from institutions in OIC member states.

Sheikhnur Mohamed Hassan, Somalia’s ambassador to Pakistan, and Farah Abdulkadir, the country’s minister of education, led a Somali team that met with Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed at the HEC Secretariat on Monday. The delegation’s visit came after they attended an international conference for girls that ended on Sunday.

Opportunities to grow the higher education sectors in Somalia and Pakistan were the main topic of discussion at the meeting. Abdullahi Omar, the Director General of the Ministry of Education, and Ms. Deka and Ms. Asma, education advisers from the Somali Embassy, were part of the Somali delegation. HEC officials were also in attendance, including Director of Administration Tariq Iqbal and Advisor on Global Engagement Awais Ahmad.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed emphasised the commission’s efforts to expand scholarship options for overseas students, especially young people from Muslim nations, according to a press statement from HEC. He mentioned how many Afghan students had been able to attend Pakistan’s best colleges because to the Afghan Student Scholarship Program’s achievement.

Dr. Ahmed gave the Somali team his word that HEC will help develop Somalia’s higher education system and give Somali students access to Pakistani academic programs. He highlighted possible partnerships in information technology, agribusiness, and quality assurance.

Dr. Ahmed also gave the team an overview of “Ilm-Bank,” a virtual platform created to serve as a knowledge consortium for universities in OIC nations. The platform links scholars and students with resources from other member states in an effort to advance cross-border training, education, and research.
