COMSTECH and University of Sargodha Agree on Fellowship Program for Refugee Scientists

The Permanent Standing Committee of COMSTECH, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the University of Sargodha have agreed on joint cooperation for the COMSTECH Fellowship Program for Refugees and Displaced Researchers and Scientists. This special fellowship program is called the “COMSTECH Science Exile Program.” The decision was made during a meeting between COMSTECH’s Coordinator General, Professor Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Choudhry, and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sargodha, Professor Dr. Qaiser Ahmad.

The University of Sargodha is also a member of the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence. During the meeting, Professor Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Choudhry emphasized the importance of this program, stating that due to conflicts around the world, millions of people have become displaced, severely affecting research and higher education.

This fellowship program will offer an opportunity to displaced and refugee scholars who have not yet found a safe host country. Under this program, researchers will be able to continue their research at the institutions of the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence.

Applications are being sought from scholars, researchers, and scientists from conflict zones such as Afghanistan, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen. The aim is to promote educational stability and assist displaced researchers in continuing their valuable work. The fellowship will cover all travel, tuition fees, accommodation, and food expenses for the selected scientists.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Sargodha, Professor Dr. Qaiser Abbas, thanked the COMSTECH Coordinator General for this important fellowship initiative. He highlighted that the University of Sargodha already provides modern hostel facilities for international students and researchers on its campus and will fully cooperate with this program. It is worth noting that this initiative reflects COMSTECH’s practical support for refugee scientists and researchers, its ongoing efforts in education and science, and its commitment to assisting Muslim scientists.
