COMSTECH’s 5,000 scholarships for Palestinian students was praised by the Palestinian Ambassador.
Dr. Zaheer Mohammad Hamadallah Zaid, the recently appointed Palestinian Ambassador to Pakistan, conveyed his appreciation for the initiative of the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to provide 5,000 scholarships for Palestinian students.
In his Friday discussion with Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, the coordinator general of COMSTECH, he characterised the scholarship as a substantial “practical assistance.”
He praised COMSTECH and Pakistan’s efforts to solve the educational obstacles Palestinian students confront as well as their unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.
In 2021, COMSTECH launched a program that offers 500 fully-funded scholarships and fellowships to Palestinian students in partnership with the Association of Private Sector Universities of Pakistan (APSUP) and member universities of the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence.
In 2023, this figure was raised to 5,000 scholarships. While attempts are underway to attract more students to Pakistan, a large number of Palestinian students have already arrived under this initiative and are enrolled in full-degree programs.
The serious educational problem brought on by recent Israeli aggression—which has not only cost lives and livelihoods but has also disrupted education for Palestinian youth for years—was brought up by Prof. Dr. Iqbal Choudhary during the discussion.
“We will not desert our Palestinian students,” he said. COMSTECH is dedicated to using every resource at its disposal to give them free, high-quality education at the best universities in Pakistan.
In order to address Palestine’s educational problem, he also revealed COMSTECH’s intention to hold an exceptional conference of the education ministers of OIC member states.
In order to support the scholarship initiative, Ambassador Dr. Zaid promised the Palestinian Embassy’s complete assistance. In order to look into further educational collaboration options, he also revealed plans to visit other Pakistani universities through COMSTECH’s platform. In order to guarantee efficiency, he underlined the significance of simplifying and accelerating the scholarship selection procedure.
This partnership between Palestine and Pakistan, led by COMSTECH, is a major step towards helping Palestinian students and resolving the region’s severe educational situation.
The meeting was also attended by officials from both sides.
