Ensuring the protection, dignity, and inclusion of Pakistanis living abroad is our shared responsibility, says Prime Minister

On International Migrants Day, we reaffirm our commitment to advocate for the legitimate rights of migrants, eliminate exploitation, and create an environment where migration becomes a symbol of opportunities and progress for a brighter future, says Shehbaz Sharif in his message.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that ensuring the protection, dignity, and inclusion of Pakistanis living abroad is our shared responsibility. On International Migrants Day, we reaffirm our commitment to advocate for the legitimate rights of migrants, eliminate exploitation, and create an environment where migration becomes a symbol of opportunities and progress for a brighter future.

In his statement on the occasion of International Migrants Day, the Prime Minister said that this day, celebrated worldwide, provides an opportunity to truly recognize the unparalleled contributions of migrants, protect their rights and dignity, and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to their welfare.

He said that for many decades, Pakistan has been a welcoming host to migrants, and it also views the increasing number of Pakistanis living abroad with pride.

He mentioned that whether it is education, employment, business, or tourism, overseas Pakistanis have established their identity as ambassadors of Pakistan and illuminated the country’s name worldwide. The Prime Minister emphasized that migrants not only bring development and prosperity to their host countries but also remain a lifeline for their home countries. He added that the remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis play a significant role in Pakistan’s economic stability.

He said that in the first two months of the fiscal year 2024-25 alone, remittances of $5.94 billion were received, reflecting the continued dedication and love of overseas Pakistanis for their homeland. He assured that the Government of Pakistan is fully committed to the welfare and empowerment of overseas Pakistanis, providing them with all kinds of facilities and ensuring the protection of their rights. He mentioned that the government has enacted the Special Court (Overseas Pakistanis Property) Act 2024 to ensure timely justice and the protection of the rights of overseas Pakistanis.

He further stated that in recognition of the valuable services of overseas Pakistanis, Pakistan has introduced the “Muhsin-e-Pak Award,” which is a prestigious national honor to pay tribute to the contributions of migrants to both Pakistan and their host communities. However, as we celebrate the power, resilience, and achievements of migrants, we must also acknowledge the challenges they face, including distance from their homeland, exploitation, and discrimination.

He concluded by emphasizing that ensuring the protection, dignity, and inclusion of Pakistanis abroad is our shared responsibility, no matter where they are in the world. On this International Migrants Day, we reaffirm our commitment to advocating for the legitimate rights of migrants, ending exploitation, and creating an environment where migration becomes a symbol of opportunities and progress for a brighter future.
