Seminar on Socioeconomic Development and Charity at Punjab University
In partnership with the Punjab Charity Commission, the sociology department and the University of the Punjab‘s Centre for Peace and Security Studies hosted an awareness conference titled “Promoting Socio-economic Development through Safe Charity Practices in Punjab.”
Students and professors attended the seminar, which featured speakers such as Prof. Dr. Farhan Navid Yousaf, Executive Director of SSDO Abbas, Dr. Fouzia Sadaf, Legal Advisor Mudassar Butt, and Col. (R) Shahzad Amir, CEO of the Punjab Charity Commission.
According to them, Pakistanis are thought to be among the most charitable people in the world.
They noted that philanthropic organisations manage educational institutions, hospitals, nursing homes, orphan shelters, and other humanitarian projects.
They placed a strong emphasis on making prudent use of charity in order to reduce socioeconomic inequality and advance sustainable development. They also emphasised the important role that academics plays in raising public awareness of responsible donation practices and undertaking research that may support evidence-based initiatives.
Dr. Muhammad Ali, the vice chancellor of PU, expressed gratitude to the Punjab Charity Commission and stated that the institution would work with it to encourage safe charitable practices throughout the province.
