The British Council is dedicated to assisting students by promoting inclusion, diversity, and equality.
The British Council’s main activity in Pakistan is administering tests, which enables young Pakistanis to obtain and profit from top-tier UK degrees.
Our team went above and beyond to make candidates’ aspirations come true during the May–June 2024 exam period. With Marinesco-Sjögren Syndrome and its severe physical problems, Rahima Atif was a diligent student who aspired to take her IGCSE exams. Rahima’s academic aptitude, enthusiasm for studying, and tremendous diligence shown that her obstacles will not prevent her from pursuing an education. In February 2024, her school’s principal reached out to Tahir Mahmood Abbasi, Sidra Naseer, and Rawat Abbasi of the British Council’s Account Relationship Team (ARM) to discuss plans for the May–June test period.
The team moved quickly to get digital question papers, set up extra time, rest periods, a scribe, and a prompter in order to make Rahima’s exam experience as seamless as possible. This demonstrated not only excellent customer service but also our steadfast dedication to inclusion, diversity, and equality. Our staff provided Rahima with continuous support and a pre-exam walkthrough to reassure her before the exam day. On the days of the exams, our team was also there to support Rahima and her mother and to assist reduce her worry.
Rahima passed her tests, demonstrating her academic commitment and tenacity, thanks to her endurance and our team’s unwavering efforts. In a letter, her mother conveyed her sincere gratitude, summarising our mission as follows:
Regardless of the obstacles, it is clear that the British Council is dedicated to supporting students’ future lives and professions in addition to helping them succeed academically. Your commitment to fostering inclusive learning settings where each student can succeed is incredibly admirable and greatly valued.
Equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) permeate all aspect of the British Council‘s global activity, whether it be in the arts, society, inclusive education, English instruction, or test administration.
