A compliance violation is likely to cause a delay in the appointment of a new PIDE VC.

Since the government is required by law to announce the employment of the new Vice Chancellor three months prior to the retiring Vice Chancellor, the federal government has not started the process of selecting the new Vice Chancellor of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE).

As per the PIDE Act, in accordance with section 12 sub-part (4) of the PIDE Act 2010, the Vice Chancellor post at PIDE was supposed to be advertised by July 15, 2024.

Planning Commission Notification No. 2(151)/Admn-IV/PDR/2018, dated October 9, 2019, appointed Dr. Nadeem ul Haque as Vice Chancellor. His five-year tenure began on October 15, 2019. The last day of this semester is October 15, 2024.

The PIDE Act of 2010’s section 12 sub-section (4) mandates that the selection process for a new Vice Chancellor begin three months prior to the conclusion of the existing term. The Chancellor will serve as the chair of the search committee, which will be tasked with identifying and recommending suitable candidates to the President of Pakistan, who serves as the patron.

Even though Dr. Haque’s term is scheduled to end on October 15, 2024, more than 20 days have gone since the deadline, and PIDE has not yet issued any directives for advertising the Vice Chancellor job. The PIDE Act of 2010’s statutory provisions have been gravely violated by this delay.
