Punjab Cheif Minister Maryam Nawaz approves the ‘Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarship’
The “Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarship” programme was approved by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The Chief Minister gave the order to raise the number of scholarships from 4,000 to 25,000 during a discussion about education reforms.
According to the Chief Minister, scholarships would cover the entire cost of tuition for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at eight private universities and government universities. The Chief Minister also approved the founding of new universities in Rabhaulingar, Wahari, and Jhelum.
The Chief Minister also gave the order to launch the laptop programme right now. The Chief Minister has expressed gratitude for the free MDCAT and ECAT courses offered in 90 Punjabi institutions.
At the conference, it was resolved to establish new courses in institutions with lower enrollment rates. These courses will be related to the demands of the labour market.
Additionally, it was planned to implement an online portal system for principal and divisional director appointments. There will be a robust system in place to select Divisional Directors and Principals only on the basis of qualifications. A plan was given to provide new buses to government colleges per the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The recommendations for the creation of universities under private-public partnerships were also discussed at the meeting.
It was decided at the meeting to help the private sector open government-affiliated universities. A high-level ministry committee was to be established in order to examine the operations of private universities. The Punjab Board Coordination Commission was also established at the meeting with the goal of reforming school board operations. Dr. Farrukh Naveed, the secretary of higher education, briefed the group. The meeting was attended by a number of authorities, including Principal Secretary, Chairman P&D, Chief Secretary, Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, and Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat.
