Punjab Textbook Board is Closing Permanently

As part of a broad restructuring plan, Education Minister Sikandar Hayat announced the dissolution of the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB).

Minister Hayat presented ideas to combine four different educational institutions into one during an interview with Samaa TV in Lahore. Under the centralised direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, this strategic reorganisation seeks to increase the effectiveness of educational administration and streamline governance.

Minister Hayat elaborated on the reform programme, stressing the creation of a single organisation that would include the Punjab Education Commission, teacher training institutions, and the textbook board. He emphasised the establishment of a special department that would oversee all four areas of education and be overseen by the Chief Minister.

Curriculum development is now integrated into this reorganised framework, which is a major change from the prior decentralised method.

The Chief Minister of Punjab will have direct control over the education department under the revised arrangement. In an effort to promote cooperation and the sharing of knowledge, Minister Hayat also revealed plans to bring in staff members from private schools.

The active participation of educators and stakeholders at all levels in the reform process was emphasised by Minister Hayat as being crucial. He underlined how crucial it is to include educators’ knowledge and perspectives in the curriculum creation process to guarantee that learning resources live up to strict quality requirements.

Additionally, Minister Hayat reiterated the dedication to requesting input from educators and learners in order to continuously assess and improve course materials and test questions. The government’s commitment to promoting quality and inclusivity in Punjab’s educational system is demonstrated by the emphasis on these two areas.
