Maryam Nawaz and Other Women Included in Matric Syllabus
The contributions of notable women to the development of the country from 1947 until the present are now covered in the redesigned 10th grade Pakistan Studies curriculum. The contributions of Maryam Nawaz, the chief minister of Punjab, and her mother, Kulsoom Nawaz, have been emphasised among these.
Along with eleven other noteworthy women, Fatima Jinnah’s accomplishments are acknowledged in the 2025 version of the Pakistan Studies textbook for matriculation students. Under the uniform education curriculum, this textbook will be taught in both public and private schools.
Additionally recognised are the efforts of individuals like Maryam Nawaz, Benazir Bhutto, Kulsoom Nawaz, Fehmida Mirza, and Nusrat Bhutto. Ayesha Neelum, the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Bilquis Edhi, Arfa Karim, Samina Baig, Shamshad Akhtar, and Nigar Johar Khan are also included in the curriculum. The new Pakistan Studies textbook, which will be taught in 2025, highlights these achievements in Chapter 8 on page 163.
Benazir Bhutto and Nusrat Bhutto are listed together in the 10th grade curriculum for the first time. According to the textbook, in 2024, Maryam Nawaz Sharif was appointed as Punjab’s first female chief minister. It also emphasises how her administration started a number of initiatives in fields including infrastructure, energy, agriculture, health, and education.
The accomplishments of Justice Ayesha Neelum are also acknowledged, as in 2024 she was appointed as the first female Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court. Dr. Fehmida Mirza’s tenure as Speaker of the National Assembly from 2008 to 2013 is also acknowledged in the book.
The achievements of these notable women are included in this new chapter, which will also be included in textbooks assigned to private schools.
