Allama Iqbal Open University and the Forum for Language Initiatives sign a MoU.

A signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Allama Iqbal Open University and the Forum for Language Initiatives was held on December 24, 2024, in Islamabad. The MoU was signed by Registrar Raja Umar Younis and Executive Director of the Forum for Language Initiatives, Fakhruddin Akhundzada. The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.

In his speech, Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir emphasized the importance of preserving languages in Pakistan, many of which are at risk of extinction, and stated that this partnership would facilitate work on language preservation through research, academic services, and training programs for both teachers and students. He also praised the Department of English at Allama Iqbal Open University, noting that all university departments would benefit from this initiative.

On this occasion, Fakhruddin Akhundzada, the Executive Director of the Forum for Language Initiatives, mentioned that many students show interest in enhancing their professional skills, and through collaboration with Allama Iqbal Open University, training workshops, joint research projects, seminars, and conferences would be organized. Dr. Muhammad Kamal Khan, Chairman of the Department of English, briefed the participants about the goals of the MoU and the future course of action. The event was also attended by Professor Dr. Abdullah Jan Abid, Chairman of the Department of Pakistani Languages, and other principal officers.
