Private Educational Institutions and Tuition Academies Reject Government Notification, Continue to Charge Fees
Private educational institutions and tuition academies have disregarded the government’s notification, refusing to accept it. Despite the issuance of the winter holidays notification, private educational institutions and tuition academies continue their educational activities in order to collect fees. On the other hand, in winter areas, despite the holidays lasting more than three months, fee collection is ongoing at a rapid pace.
Private educational institutions have also rejected the orders of the higher judiciary. Political, social, religious, commercial, public, academic, and literary figures, as well as civil society, have strongly objected and demanded that the owners of private educational institutions correct their practices. In the severe cold, children have started to suffer from various contagious diseases at a rapid pace.
According to media reports, in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Kashmir, and its surrounding areas, private educational institutions have disregarded the government’s notification, rejecting the holidays announced for the winter season, and have kept their institutions open.
Despite the holidays in winter areas, private educational institutions have started collecting fees for three months. This is in direct violation of the clear orders issued by the Supreme Court, which prohibit any private educational institution from collecting three months’ worth of fees in a lump sum during winter holidays. Nevertheless, these private institutions have been collecting three months’ fees in advance from parents, continuing their practices arbitrarily. Civil society has urged the authorities, including the education department officials, to take immediate action to correct the practices of such private educational institutions.
