Karachi Colleges’ BS Program Launch Is Delayed

The Sindh High Court received a report from the University of Karachi (KU) that outlined shortcomings in Karachi’s government colleges applying for affiliation for bachelor’s degree programs in 14 different subjects. According to the research, 11 institutions’ affiliation files lacked important information regarding their facilities, including teacher records, library book titles, computer resources, and classroom availability.

Education expert Dr. Muhammad Ali Sheikh, a former vice-chancellor of Sindh Madressatul Islam, offered his thoughts on the matter, pointing out that Pakistani colleges and universities function differently than others throughout the world.

Principal Results of the KU Report:
Government Science College of DJ Sindh
affiliation requests were made for computer science, physics, and chemistry bachelor’s degrees.
There are only three computer science teachers among the faculty, compared to ten physics and nine chemistry teachers.
Federal B Area’s Government Girls Science and Commerce College
submitted an application to a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program that lasts four years.
Only two Economics and four Commerce teachers are BBA/MBA qualified.
Only three of the fifteen suggested books were regarding business studies, and there were no specifics about computer facilities or a pertinent library collection.
For the BS in Economics and Finance, PECHS Government College for Women applied for affiliation.
Computer facilities were indicated in the dossier, however the seven listed professors’ academic information was missing.

Girls’ Premier Government College

  • submitted a BBA (BS) application.
There are only three Commerce teachers, no business department staff, and no details on computer laboratories.
  • Similar shortcomings were found in the applications of other institutions, such as Government College of Physical Education, Premier Government College, and Premier Government Boys College (Evening).

Official Reaction: According to Dr. Naveed Rab, Director General of Colleges, the Education Department has given NOCs and the required affiliation files have been filed. Inspection visits, which are necessary to begin the BS programs in the 2025 academic year, have not yet been carried out by the University of Karachi.

Phased visits to the colleges would start in the first week of December, according to Dr. Anila Amber Malik, Secretary of the Affiliation Committee, who also verified that the report had been submitted. “Colleges that meet the necessary standards will be granted affiliation,” she promised.
