A Senate Committee Presents the New MDCAT Plan

On September 22, 2024, the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) leak was brought to the attention of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services Regulations and Coordination (NHSRC).

At first, all universities refuted the claims of the leak, according to Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) officials. But after the MDCAT students filed a complaint with the Sindh High Court, the court halted the results that Dow University of Health Sciences had announced and established a committee including two secretaries, a PMDC nominee, and members of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The MDCAT was released 13 hours ahead of schedule, according to the FIA forensic assessment. According to Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti, kids who barely passed the intermediate and matriculation exams managed to score 197 out of 200 on the MDCAT.

He gave PMDC till the end of December to provide a plan for MDCAT. In order to combat the threat of cheating, he noted, future tests should be IT-based. Additionally, PMDC should create a public “question bank” to permanently address the issue of “Out of Syllabus.”
