A new research facility at Hunan University of Medicine in China has been named in honour of Professor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry, a distinguished Pakistani scientist.

At a special university function, the announcement was made. This 13,000-square-foot, cutting-edge facility will house 17 full-time researchers committed to promoting scientific cooperation between China and Pakistan.

The new research facility at Hunan University of Medicine has been named in honour of Prof Chaudhry, which is a historic first for a Pakistani scientist.

Joint research projects between Chinese and Pakistani scientists have advanced significantly as a result of Professor Chaudhry’s important contributions to science, particularly the establishment of Sino-Pak research centres.

The Mustafa (PBUH) Prize, several Pakistani Civil Awards (Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz), the Chinese Friendship Award, and the Golden Silkball Friendship Award are just a few of the honours bestowed upon this esteemed member of the scientific community. In addition, he serves as the Vice President of the World Academy of Sciences for Central and South Asia and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in London and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, among other prestigious organisations.

This facility’s construction is a significant step towards enhancing China-Pakistan scientific cooperation.
