British teacher sent to jail in the United Arab Emirates for accepting bribes from pupils
The Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal condemned a British teacher to three years in prison.
The court also issued a Dh5,000 fine and ordered him deportation after serving his term.
He was convicted of taking bribes from pupils at the institution where he was employed.
The teacher compromised the integrity of the UAE‘s educational system by accepting payments to rig tests and artificially enhance students’ marks.
The Public Prosecution’s investigation, which produced unambiguous proof of the teacher’s misconduct, led to the court’s ruling.
The teacher was put on trial in the special criminal court after the matter was referred there.
Authorities are presently looking into more instances of exam irregularities and cheating.
