FJMU celebrates four approved gynaecology subspecialties

The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and the university itself have approved four new subspecialties in obstetrics and gynaecology, which is a significant development that was celebrated by the Academic Council of Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) on Saturday.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, Urogynecology, and Gynaecological Oncology are among the recently approved subspecialties.

The Academic Council, which also authorised the postgraduate training university programmes at FJMU/SGRH, Lahore, heartily appreciated this milestone.

Prof. Aisha Malik, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and her team were praised by the attendees, including VC Dr. Khalid Masood. Principal Prof. Noreen Akmal was singled out for special recognition for accomplishing this remarkable achievement.

The council was extremely appreciative of Prof. Noreen Akmal’s crucial contribution to this success.

A goodbye ceremony was organised in honour of Prof. Dr. Noreen Akmal, Principal of Fatima Jinnah Medical College and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, who departed after a long career, in addition to commemorating the new sub-specialties.

Prominent individuals attended the ceremony, including Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, the Director of the Quality Enhancement Cell and Chair of the Department of Medicine; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nadeem, the Registrar; Deans Profs. Aisha Malik, Abdul Hameed, Aliya Zahid, and Naveed Akbar Hotiana; and members of the Academic Council, Profs. Tasneem Amir and Maryam Malik, among other faculty members and department heads.

Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal recognised Prof. Noreen Akmal’s tenure as exemplary and commended her for her outstanding achievements to the institution during the event.

Prof. Dr. Noreen Akmal conveyed her sincere appreciation to the prominent guests and academics for their steadfast support.

She thought back on her 43-year tenure at FJMU, expressing pride and honour in her work under the inspiring direction of Prof. Gondal. At the conclusion of the event, Prof. Akmal was given gifts, a bouquet, and shields as part of a birthday celebration.
