Minister of State for Information Technology Shazia Fatima meets with a Google delegation; focusing on importance of digital education

Minister of State for Information Technology Shazia Fatima met with a Google delegation to discuss effective use of technology in education, artificial intelligence, and detailed discussions regarding digital economy. The Google delegation briefed the Ministry of IT about Google Literacy Programs.

During the occasion, the Minister stated that Google‘s initiative for Chromebooks in Pakistan through Google for Education is a commendable step to reduce the educational divide by providing digital tools to students and teachers. She emphasized the importance of imparting digital skills to enhance youth employability, highlighting the necessity of training students and teachers in the use of digital tools.

She further expressed that digital literacy can lead to better employment opportunities and underscored the significance of establishing smart schools for remote learning. The meeting included Additional Secretary Ministry of IT Ayesha Humaira Moriani, IT Member Syed Javed Imam, and Telecom Member Muhammad Jehanzaib Rahim.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunications, the meeting discussed detailed discussions regarding effective use of technology in education, artificial intelligence, and digital economy.

The Google delegation included Andrew Errey, Head of Trade and Economic Affairs, Asia Pacific; Kyle Gardner, Government Affairs and Public Policy Lead, South Asia; and Farhan Qureshi, Google Country Head. The delegation briefed Minister of State for IT about Google Literacy Programs. The Minister said that teaching digital skills is crucial to enhancing youth employability and establishing smart schools for remote learning is crucial. The Minister for IT said that Google’s initiative to prepare Chromebooks in Pakistan through Google for Education is a commendable step, helping to reduce educational distribution by providing digital tools to students and teachers. She said that youth can be obtained better employment opportunities through digital literacy.
