The World Bank approves $150 million for Punjab’s primary education
In an effort to help the five million children who are not in school today, the World Bank has approved funding of $150 million to improve educational facilities in the Punjab region of Pakistan.
The money will specifically target the needs of the seven million children in Punjab who do not have access to education, according to a World Bank representative.
The World Bank hopes to drastically lower the number of out-of-school children in the province by enhancing elementary school resources and infrastructure.
This event follows the World Bank’s recent acceptance of a $1 billion loan for the construction of the Dasu Dam.
The investment for the Dasu Dam is the most that the World Bank has ever given to a project in Pakistan.
The project’s goal is to enhance hydropower generation that is both economical and environmentally benign.
Concessional loans from the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) are included in this financing package.
