The federal education ministry has stepped up efforts to comply with PM Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to open Daanish Schools in Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will each have three schools established by PM Shehbaz Sharif, while Islamabad will see the construction of one school.
The PM office released a statement saying, “These boarding schools will accommodate 1,000 bright students each from marginalised segments of society, boasting state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment.”
The statement went on to say that hiring elite professors to teach 21st-century skills, especially in computer science and STEM, will be the main priority. Additionally, admissions will only be granted on the basis of merit.

Prime Minister Shehbaz directed that project plans be expedited for clearance by the appropriate authorities, with a priority for building on state-owned land. Regarding PC-I of the project, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Special Secretary for Education, contacted the chief secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan.

He stated, “The federal government, GB, and AJK are closely coordinating to start these schools as soon as possible.” Wani informed a national daily that the PC-I for the Daanish School in Islamabad has already been written and will be submitted at the Central Development Working Party meeting shortly.

“In the Kuri area of Islamabad, land had already been set aside for this project, and the PC-I will also receive approval in a few days,” he continued. According to Wani, the project should be finished in its entirety by March 2026.

It is significant to remember that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) last week accepted a proposal to build a Daanish school in the capital’s Kuri neighbourhood. Haji Gulbar Khan, the chief minister of GB, praised PM Shehbaz Sharif for his commitment to establish Daanish schools in the country.
