Encouraging Future Leaders: The Pakistan Youth Leadership Initiative is Introduced by the British Council
The Pakistan Youth Leadership Initiative (PYLI) was publicly introduced by the British Council during a ceremony held at the Higher Education Commission in Islamabad.
Prominent luminaries attended the occasion, including James Hampson, Country Director, British Council Pakistan, Abdulla Al-Abdulla, Executive Director (ROTA-EAA), and Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman, Higher Education Commission.
PYLI is a three-year project headed by the British Council Pakistan and will be carried out in collaboration with public universities, local CSOs, UNDP Pakistan, and the Youth Development Programme of the Government of Pakistan. The project is partially supported by the “Global Citizenship Education for Climate Action” (GCED) initiative of the Education Above All Foundation, under the program “Reach Out to Asia” (ROTA).
The goal of the PYLI project is to raise awareness of social and ethical principles among young people in Pakistan and to show respect for diversity by engaging in inclusive and responsible actions that impact local, national, and international sustainable development agendas related to climate action. Building a strong foundation requires focusing on better youth education, and by teaching Pakistan’s future generations, we hope to build a society that is both prosperous and environmentally conscious.
The Higher Education Commission and the Prime Minister Youth Programme of the Government of Pakistan are our project partners in that country. The UNDP, WaterAid, Viamo, and ISD UK are further partners.
The Learning Management System (LMS) was unveiled, a panel of PYLI partners was held, and the esteemed primary guests officially launched the event.
A panel discussion about the potential and difficulties experienced by Pakistani youth was also included in the program.
“The Pakistan Youth Leadership Initiative is about putting the future in the hands of young people,” stated Dr. Paul Thompson, Chair of the British Council. It is anticipated that around 300,000 youth from Pakistan, including those enrolled in public universities, will receive the necessary training to spearhead campaigns aimed at addressing the pressing issue of climate change.
“We recognize Pakistani youth as key drivers of climate action and we are committed to supporting their journey to make a positive and meaningful impact through the Pakistan Youth Leadership Initiative (PYLI) in partnership with British Council Pakistan,” stated Abdulla Al-Abdulla, Executive Director, Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), a Programme of the Education Above All Foundation (EAA).
