Habib University, Dean’s fellowship program 2024, Shaping futures

Habib University offers a thorough three-year pre-doctoral program for aspiring scholars called the Dean’s Fellowship Program. Dean’s Fellows can pursue research in a variety of interdisciplinary subjects thanks to this program, which also gives them the academic freedom to create and instruct undergraduate courses.

Dean’s Fellows at Habib University get the chance to hone their academic portfolios under the guidance of seasoned faculty members in preparation for applying to competitive PhD programs around the world.

A wide range of interdisciplinary programs, such as computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, integrated sciences and mathematics, social development and policy, communication and design, and comparative humanities, are open to Fellows of Habib University’s Dean’s Fellowship Program. Fellows can teach courses in their thematic area of concentration or courses from the Habib University Liberal Core through this program.

An essential component of Habib University’s academic community are the Dean’s Fellows. Throughout their academic journey, the Fellows get active support from the Center for Pedagogical Excellence (CPE). Former Erasmus Mundus scholar and current Dean’s Fellow Zainab Makati recounted her experience with the Center as she was creating her course, “Introduction to Geoinformatics with QGIS.”

“I was able to learn a lot from my mentor Dr. Anzar Khaliq, as I was able to have multiple productive discussions with him about pedagogy and about my various research interests within the realm of design,” said Manahil Huda, a former Dean’s Fellow. “I found his assistance to be very helpful in publishing research articles and applying to different programs and awards”.

Furthermore, a variety of courses and mentorship sessions are available to Fellows with the express purpose of assisting them with their terminal degree applications. For instance, in the Fall 2023 semester, Dean’s Fellows received guidance and assistance in preparing research proposals, statements of purpose, and curriculum vitae for their Ph.D. applications from Dr. Haleema Qamar, an assistant professor in Habib University’s Dhanani School of Science and Engineering, through a workshop titled “Gearing up for a PhD.”

Dr. Aatir Khan, an assistant professor in the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, created the workshop “Deconstructing the Candidate Profiles for Graduate School Admissions” with the express purpose of assisting the Dean’s Fellows in comprehending the evaluation standards of funding agencies, scholarship committees, and admissions committees.

The Dean’s Fellowship Program encourages Fellows to actively and extensively perform in-depth research by acting as a research fellowship. With the assistance of their academic mentors, Fellows create a specific research plan and proposal as part of the program. To help with their initiatives, they can also apply for a research grant from Habib University. Through the 10-week Summer Tehqiq Research Program, which is focused on research, fellows also involve students in their projects.

Habib University offers a nurturing environment for study and career advancement through the Dean’s Fellowship Program. “The Dean’s Fellowship Program enhanced my academic and professional growth through collaboration with experienced faculty, fostering leadership skills while supervising motivated undergraduates,” stated Areeba Rajput, a Fulbright scholar and Dean’s Fellow. My teaching and communication abilities have improved as a result of the beneficial mentorship, networking, and research possibilities it has provided.

Through the Dean’s Fellowship Program 2024, young, aspirational academics with impressive academic records can join Habib University’s intellectually vibrant community. The program is made to give Dean’s Fellows access to teaching and research opportunities in a variety of interdisciplinary subjects, in addition to enabling them to apply to highly competitive doctoral degree programs worldwide.
