Healthy Kids, Bright Futures: Punjab’s New School Nutrition Program

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has rolled out its first-ever School Nutrition Program to help children build healthier eating habits and improve their overall well-being.

In its initial phase, the program will reach 40 schools across Lahore, providing students from grades one to five with nutritious lunchboxes. Each lunchbox will be packed with balanced meals including rice, vegetables, pulses, and other wholesome foods designed to fuel growing minds and bodies.

What makes this initiative stand out is the way it’s being funded. Instead of relying on external resources, PFA officials and staff are contributing from their own salaries. The Director General has pledged three months’ salary, officers will donate two months, and staff members will give one month’s salary to keep the program running.

The PFA is also teaming up with NGOs to strengthen the effort and ensure long-term success. To track its impact, children will undergo health check-ups every three months, measuring growth, vision, and overall health.

From the kitchen to the classroom, the Food Authority has promised to closely monitor every step of the process—making sure meals are safe, healthy, and effective in supporting students.
