University Students Unveil Innovative Crime-Fighting App
Students from Turbat University in Balochistan’s Kech district have made remarkable progress by developing an innovative mobile application called “Shanakht” for the local police department.
This app is designed to provide instant access to detailed information about suspects involved in criminal activities or fugitives, making it a powerful tool for law enforcement. After four months of development, “Shanakht” has officially been handed over to the District Kech Police. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Kech praised the students for their hard work and creativity, awarding them certificates of recognition.
The launch of “Shanakht” highlights the growing role of technology in crime prevention. It follows the success of Sindh police’s “Talash” app, introduced in 2022 to combat street crimes in Karachi. Developed with modern policing needs in mind, “Talash” provides access to information from databases such as NADRA, offers details on over 1.5 million criminals, and aids in verifying suspects and tracing those on bail.
Both “Shanakht” and “Talash” underscore the importance of leveraging technology to enhance policing and ensure safer communities. These innovations demonstrate how modern tools can help law enforcement pre-empt and combat criminal activity more effectively, setting a positive precedent for other regions to follow.
