Punjab Plans to Increase Passing Marks to 40% by 2026

The Punjab government has announced plans to increase the minimum passing marks for exams conducted by all provincial educational boards to 40%, starting in 2026.

Under this new policy, students will need to secure at least 40% marks to pass their exams. Although the changes were initially slated for implementation this year, final approval from the Punjab Cabinet is still awaited.

The Higher Education Department (HED) has already prepared a proposal seeking the cabinet’s endorsement. Alongside raising the passing marks, the department also plans to introduce a revised grading system for exams.

To ensure a smooth transition, the HED has begun preparations to implement the updated policy effectively. The initiative marks a significant step toward improving the educational standards across the province.
