AJK Schools Extend Winter Break Amid Severe Weather
The Education Department of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has announced an extension to winter vacations for all schools, citing a severe cold wave sweeping through the region.
According to a notification issued on Tuesday, both public and private schools will now remain closed until January 4, 2025, with classes resuming on February 6—four days later than the previously scheduled date of February 2.
The decision was made to ensure the safety and comfort of students and staff, as the harsh weather has made traveling and daily activities increasingly challenging. Authorities emphasized that the extension is a necessary step to address the difficulties posed by the bitter cold.
In a similar move, the Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) recently extended its winter break by a week for all schools across the province. Initially scheduled from December 22 to December 31 in the plain areas, the vacation now runs until January 7. Schools in KP will reopen six days later than planned, reflecting the shared struggle against the winter chill in both regions.
