Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Extends Winter Break Amid Freezing Temperatures

The Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has extended winter vacations for schools across the province by an additional week due to the ongoing severe cold. According to a notification issued on Monday, schools will now reopen on January 7 instead of January 1.

The decision was made as temperatures continue to drop, posing health and safety concerns for students, particularly during early morning commutes in freezing conditions.

Initially, winter vacations for schools in KP’s plain areas were scheduled from December 22 to December 31, while schools in hilly regions were set to remain closed from December 22 to February 28 due to harsher weather conditions.

Elsewhere, in Punjab, public and private schools are observing a 20-day winter break. This began on December 23, 2024, and will continue until January 10, 2025.
