The Higher Education Commission (HEC)<\/a> has aligned the commerce degree curriculum with modern and industrial requirements through its National Curriculum Review Committee (NCRC). According to a statement issued by the HEC<\/a> on Wednesday, a two-day NCRC meeting was held at Government College University Faisalabad under the chairmanship of Professor Syed Mohammad Amir Shah from Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad.<\/p>\n

The committee established comprehensive curriculum standards for Associate Degree, Bachelor of Studies, and Master of Studies in Commerce, reinforcing HEC’s commitment to academic excellence and aligning the system with contemporary business challenges. Dr. Amjad Hussain, Director General of the HEC Academic Division, emphasized the HEC’s dedication to curriculum development, improving educational standards, and promoting an industry-linked educational system.<\/p>\n

Mohammad Ali Baig, Deputy Director of HEC Academic Division and Secretary of the NCRC, provided a comprehensive review of the curriculum development process. He stressed the need for a structured commerce degree that equips students with industry-relevant skills, distinguishing it from the current Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He highlighted the importance of strengthening courses in Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Trade Policy in undergraduate commerce degrees to make them more relevant to the field and meet practical industry needs.<\/p>\n

Moreover, acknowledging the growing influence of AI and digital transformation in commerce, he emphasized the need to modernize the commerce degree curriculum and enhance graduates’ technical capabilities through the inclusion of courses in Computing, Digital Skills, Business Technology, and Enterprise Resource Planning.<\/p>\n

The NCRC was represented by leading higher education institutions from across Pakistan, including Air University, Islamabad; Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad; Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan; Emerson University, Multan; Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi; Foundation University Islamabad; Government College University Faisalabad; Government College University Lahore; Hailey College of Commerce, Punjab University, Lahore; International Islamic University, Islamabad; Quaid-e-Azam College of Commerce, Peshawar University; Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University, Quetta; University of Balochistan, Quetta; University of Karachi; University of Kotli Azad Jammu & Kashmir; and University of Malakand, Lower Dir.<\/p>\n

In line with HEC\u2019s undergraduate and graduate educational policies, the revised curriculum integrates the latest developments in the field.
