In an effort to help the five million children who are not in school today, the World Bank<\/a> has approved funding of $150 million to improve educational facilities in the Punjab region of Pakistan.<\/p>\n

The money will specifically target the needs of the seven million children in Punjab who do not have access to education, according to a World Bank representative.<\/p>\n

The World Bank hopes to drastically lower the number of out-of-school children<\/a> in the province by enhancing elementary school resources and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

This event follows the World Bank’s recent acceptance of a $1 billion loan for the construction of the Dasu Dam.<\/p>\n

The investment for the Dasu Dam is the most that the World Bank has ever given to a project in Pakistan.<\/p>\n

The project’s goal is to enhance hydropower generation that is both economical and environmentally benign.<\/p>\n

Concessional loans from the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) are included in this financing package.<\/p>\n
